catch 22?

I was on this flight last night and was sitting in the Exit row. I never paid any attention to what those women say or do during the take off, but as i was next to the exit i had to. I was reading the safety instructions booklet . some where it goes like"If you are sitting in an exit row , u must identify ur self with the flight attendant if u cannot read, understand, speak english":(
